Winston Baugh - Show Host Mecca Beeston

When I was approached to help launch the new Club in Beeston I knew this was going to be something special as I had already heard so much about the new concept from other people. I didn’t have to think twice about joining the existing Team. I jumped at the chance.

I had worked at various Mecca Clubs and thought that this new role would enhance the skills I had already gained but that it would give me a chance to entertain the Customers a little more in a ‘showy’ way. I was certainly right about the entertaining part. As Show Hosts, myself, Katie and Tom definitely put on a good show, not only calling numbers but having banter between pages and putting on impromptu comedy performances if anything goes wrong so the Customers don’t have to listen to dead air. The response from the Customers makes the job worthwhile as we have had such positive feedback saying that we are doing a great job and that we are better than other clubs that they have been to.

My job is more than just being a Show Host during ‘normal’ bingo hours. I host Rock and Roll bingo, DJ After Dark Bin-glo and compare the quiz – all of which certainly stretches my entertaining skills and keeps the Customers having fun all the way through until 11pm. It’s definitely the best job I’ve had in my 8 years at Mecca.

Katie Bonner – Show Host Mecca Beeston

My previous employment has never seen me on a microphone before but with a keen interest in theatrical performance and a love of all things ‘showy’, when I saw an advertisement in the local paper for a ‘Show Host’, my dramatic sense tingled.

After passing the interview and stepping foot into the new concept Club I knew I’d be at home. Working for Mecca is an interesting experience and the rapport that I’ve built with the Customers and my fellow Show Hosts, Winston and Tom, means that I’m never short of anyone to talk to.

Calling numbers is a big part of my job, but the banter that I and the other two Show Hosts generate between games means that Customers have a more entertaining bingo experience than they would get in some other clubs. However, it is the shows that Mecca Beeston put on after the main session that I enjoy most. Rock and Roll Bingo and After Dark Bin-glo give me a chance to show off and also give the Customers another reason to stay behind and have a great night out.

If Mecca is more than Bingo, then Katie and her fellow Show Hosts are more than Callers!
